Thank you for trusting Mathpix with your images! We take your privacy very seriously. Below you will find our full Privacy Policy, separated into two sections, one for each of our products: Snip and MathpixOCR.

Snip

This privacy policy governs your use of the software application Snip (“Application”) for mobile and desktop devices and for web browsers that was created by Mathpix, Inc. The Application is activated via taking pictures of handwritten and printed math or text and returns either a valid LaTeX or text response or an image URL.

Mathpix’s technology works off of images you take with your camera or images you upload into the Application. We will request permissions to use camera on your device. Additionally, we may ask for permission to access images on your device. We do not share your images or personal data with third-party processors unless access is required in order to perform our service.

User Provided Information

The Application obtains the information you provide when you register for a Mathpix account. When you register with us and use the Application, you will provide (a) your email address and password; (b) whether or not you allow Mathpix to use your images to improve the Mathpix recognition engine (c) transaction-related information, such as credit card information, when you make purchases or respond to any offers; (d) information you provide us when you contact us directly for support; (e) information you enter into our system when using the Application, such as contact information.

We may also use the information you provided us to contact your from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices, and marketing promotions.

Automatically Collected Information

In addition, the Application may collect certain the following information automatically: the type of mobile or desktop device you use, the IP address of your mobile or desktop device, your mobile or desktop operating system, the type of mobile or desktop Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use the Application. No other information is collected from your device.

Opt-out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application or deactivating your account. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile or desktop device. You can deactivate your account at accounts.mathpix.com. You can also request to opt-out or account deactivation via email to support@mathpix.com.

You can stop collection of images processed from your installed Applications for QA purposes by simply unchecking the box next to the account setting that reads "Mathpix can use my images to improve their OCR technology" at accounts.mathpix.com.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. We will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate.

Individual Snips can be deleted from our database by deleting them in your Application. This action is irreversible as we do not keep backups or copies of your Snip information. Please note that image URLs of deleted Snips may take up to 10 minutes to become invalid after the deletion of the Snip.

If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at support@mathpix.com and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for the Application to function properly.

Third Party Processors

Only aggregated, anonymized data is periodically transmitted to external services to help us improve the Application and our service. We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  1. as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
  2. when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  3. with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.
  4. if Mathpix Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.

Collection of Real-time Location Information

This Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile or desktop device, but it does collect IP addresses to protect against spamming.

Children

We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at support@mathpix.com. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

Your Consent

By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the United States your information will be transferred, processed and stored under United States privacy standards.


MathpixOCR

This privacy policy governs your use of the API service MathpixOCR (“Service”) for use in mobile and desktop devices and web applications that was created by Mathpix, Inc. The Service is accessed via an API request containing an image to the Mathpix servers, and returns either a valid LaTeX or text response or an error message.

Mathpix’s technology works off of images sent from your API key. We do not share images sent from your API key or any confidential information with third-party processors unless access is required in order to perform our Service.

Customer Provided Information

The Service obtains the information you provides when sending an API request. This information usually includes, but is not limited to (a) an image or batch of images; (b) authentication information; (c) desired formats; (d) other request specific parameters.

Automatically Collected Information

The Service may collect end-user IP address information automatically, unless Customer has explicitly opted out of this collection for Privacy reasons. IP address information is only collected for the purpose of protecting Mathpix against any attacks on our servers by your end-users.

If you have opted out of automatic collection of end-user IP addresses by Mathpix, please be aware that by Agreeing to our Terms & Conditions you agree to not hold Mathpix liable for any potential damages caused by interrupted service to your API key in the event of an attack on our servers.

Opt-out Rights

You can stop collection of images processed from your API key for QA purposes by contacting us at support@mathpix.com.

You can stop all collection of information by the Service by cancelling your MathpixOCR account at dashboard.mathpix.com. You can also request account cancellation via email to support@mathpix.com. Please be aware that this action is irreversible.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain Customer Provided and Automatically Collected data for 90 days, unless you have opted out of data retention for QA. (please see above)

Third Party Processors

We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement and are necessary to Mathpix performing our Service.
